This is a powerful story, but I was really frustrated by the way the narrator treated his friend/servant. As the story unfolded, I could sense his shame. The more I thought about it, if the same story had been set in here, I guess it could have been a civil war story between a white plantation owner and Black slave's son. After I got over the unusual names, it was interesting to recognize cities we read about in the news now. I'm thinking more people need to read this book. There's so much in it about life and friendships and regrets.
